Washington D.C. - Congressman Dan Lungren (R-CA) today joined Members of Congress for a press conference on the need for increased transparency and accountability for President Obama's numerous czars. "When I went home and talked to my constituents, we talked about health care, the growing debt, taxation, and runaway spending. Average everyday citizens asked me about czars, I didn't once bring up the topic," Lungren said. Although czars have existed in previous Administrations, there is concern among the American public that there has been a proliferation of these advisors recently. Currently there are 30 czars advising the Administration on a variety of issues. According to the Washington Post, 18 have not been confirmed by U.S. Senate. "I said to my constituents that we have had some of these positions in the past but they seemed to think we have too many. The President may not remember August, I remember it very well. Listening to the Democrat leadership, who said that people attending these town halls were un-American, I didn't find mobs, I found people concerned about their country. They want to know what is happening with their government. We need to have a call for questions of constitutionality but also for simple good government and trust," Lungren concluded.
