Lungren Statement on the Eighth Anniversary of the September 11th Terrorist Attacks PDF Print

Washington DC - Congressman Dan Lungren (R-CA) today issued the following statement on the eighth year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:

"Although it has been eight years since the horrific attacks on that September morning, it is an event which will forever remain a part of our collective consciousness as Americans. For many of us the savagery of that day became a new Dec 7, 1941 or Nov 22, 1963. We will never forget the details of that day, where we were or what we were doing. Our thoughts and prayers continue for those who lost family members and loved ones as a consequence of the attack."

"This should be a time when all of us, regardless of our political convictions, should come together to express our commitment to one another as Americans.  The Twin Towers, the Pentagon and that quiet field in Pennsylvania record the first casualties of our new struggle against those who foster hate and intolerance towards freedom.  We must never forget the heroes: first responders and everyday citizens who answered the call for their country at a time of such need. Let us all properly mourn their lives but at the same time celebrate who they were as people."

"As policymakers, those of us who are privileged to serve in the Congress must remember that our primary responsibility is to protect the American people from another such calamitous attack. It is our responsibility to guard and protect the light of liberty for future generations. The attack of September 11th was a clarion call for all to seek ways to secure our commitment to preserve our God given freedom."

"On this solemn day, I pledge anew to do everything in my power to remain vigilant against those who are dedicated to harming us.May God bless the fallen, those who defend us and the people of this great nation."
